Special Offer on Iconic South African Wine Estate

Glenelly is the vision of Madame May de Lencquesaing who at the age of 78 and after 30 years as the owner of the famous Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande in Bordeaux, purchased the estate in 2003. A remarkable story for sure and all because she believed in the soil, the micro climate and the potential for quality wines. And also because she believed in South Africa and wished to play a part in its economic development. Her vision was to transform the property into one of the pre-eminent fine wine producers in Stellenbosch and there is no question that Glenelly has arrived at the ‘top table’ now, these are wines made in a classical, restrained style and the French heritage is undeniable.
We have a very special relationship with Glenelly, having done a number of wine events with both wine maker Luke O’Cuinneagan and Nicolas Bureau who is the grandson of May de Lencquesaing. I have visited the estate fairly recently and I was supposed to be there in March this year, but clearly events over took me.
Currently ALL sales of alcohol are banned in South Africa and so we are delighted to make this offer in conjunction with Nicolas and Luke to support our friends at Glenelly.

Glenelly Estate ‘Glass Collection’
Unwooded Chardonnay 2019, Stellenbosch

“Youthful and bright, this shows vibrant notes of cream soda, dusty green honeydew melon and dusty crushed limestone. Lovely texture and fleshy mouthfeel, finishing with notes of melon, green apple and subtle minerality. Lovely gourmet wine.”  89/100 Greg Sherwood MW

Glenelly Estate ‘Glass Collection’ Syrah 2016, Stellenbosch

“Fermented with 40% whole bunches and using fruit grown on the Simonsberg, this well- priced Syrah has spicy bramble and blackberry fruit and a hint of oak sweetness.”
90/100 South African Report 2018, Tim Atkin

“The single-variety version probably doesn’t attract the attention it deserves, the current-release 2016 as good as ever. Winemaking involving 40% whole-bunch fermentation and 12 months of maturation in old oak, the nose shows red and black fruit, some floral perfume, an attractive herbal note, pepper and spice while the palate is marked by juicy fruit, fresh acidity and crunchy tannins.”

Glenelly Estate Reserve 2013, Stellenbosch,

“Syrah in the mix, this smells and tastes of classic old school Bordeaux with sweet tobacco leaves, herbal spice, tannery leather, cigar box and sweet savoury black currant and black berry intensity with a clear vein of graphite. Creamy and cool fruited, this is plush and textured with earthy black orchard fruits, lead pencil, graphite and a sweet piquant cedary finish. Drink now or cellar for a few more years.”  92/100 Greg Sherwood MW

“Created as a South African version of what winemaker Luke O’Cuinneagain calls “an old school claret” this is a Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated blend of four Bordeaux varieties with 15% Syrah. It’s a nicely mature, herbal red with sweet spices and a hint of graphite.”
93/100 South African Report 2018, Tim Atkin MW
